Brockton (Mass.) High School is scrambling to ready the field at Campanelli Stadium after wet conditions left the field unplayable for the first month of the season.
Campanelli is a city-owned stadiu, which the school shares with the collegiate summer league Brockton Rox.
The field at the stadium has taken on a lot of rain recently, but officials say it will be ready when the Brockton Boxers host Stoughton on Friday.
"The field could not be used for the first month of the season and the facilities staff are doing what they can to mitigate water collection issues," Jordan Mayblum, director of communications for the schools, told The Enterprise.
Getting the field ready for play is a short-term solution, but Brockton Public Schools are working with the city on a systemic fix to come up with a turf management plan for the fall, when Mayburn says is the best time to overseed and fix the areas that need attention.
Campanelli and the adjoining Shaw's Center were built back in the early 2000s for $18 million when the Brockton Rox were playing to big crowds.
According to The Enterprise, the Brockton Rox played to big crowds back then, but the current Rox are hoping to boost interest back to those levels. They're marketing 2025 as a "revival season."
