Austin Parks and Rec Using Lottery for Summer Camps

Community members in Austin, Texas, will be scrambling to enter a lottery if they want a spot in any of the city’s summer camps.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department will be doling out limited spots to children and families for its weekly sessions.

“It is a randomized process, and at the end of the process it is going to spit out numbers for us as to who is in and who is out,” Lucas Massie, PARD assistant director, told the local NBC affiliate.

Lottery registration will begin June 15 and run through June 19.

“We know there is a high demand for our services especially since it is going to be a free camp this summer and that is why we are trying to make a real effort for online alternatives,” said Massie.

PARD will also be offering a number of online courses for kids and families.
