Wayne State University this week announced plans to build a new basketball arena. The school’s board of governors approved $25 million for the construction of the facility, which will serve both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. Plans call for a 70,000-square-foot arena with seating for approximately 3,000, offices, locker room areas, concessions and more. In addition to serving the school’s athletics programs, it will also house the G League franchise affiliate of the Detroit Pistons. The University of Southern California recently dedicated the first phase of a $16 million renovation to its track and field facility, which provides enlarged locker room and lounge space for both the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Phase two of the project will replace an equipment storage building with a new building containing a team meeting room, a Hall of Fame, academic study rooms, coaches offices and locker rooms and a viewing balcony. — USCTrojans.com

The University of Alabama at Birmingham held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new track and field facility on Monday. The new state-of-the-art facility features an eight-lane Mondotrack surface, dual straights with discus, javelin and shot put throwing spaces in the infield, a hammer cage and jump spaces. Penn State University’s board of trustees committee on finance, business and capital planning voted to approve a plan to upgrade football facilities. The vote recommends that design firm HOK be appointed for the renovation of the Mildred and Louis Lasch Football Building, as well as outdoor football practice fields and Holuba Hall. The estimated $69 million renovation will be a multi-phase project, and includes plans to expand a strength and conditioning facility, upgrade coaches offices and meeting rooms, level grass playing fields and provide permanent filming platforms.
