Indiana University of Pennsylvania will upgrade its baseball and softball facilities with new synthetic turf. The new surface will include infields, pitching mounds, backstops and foul territories, while the outfields will remain natural grass. The softball program’s Podbielski Field will have a synthetic turf warning track. Work on the project is expected to be complete in March. — iupathletics.com

The city of Fairmont, W.V., is considering building a recreation center. The City Council has been seeking ways to fund the estimated $3.5 million facility, but has yet to work out the details. The city hopes that if the plan comes to fruition, the rec space would provide basketball and soccer facilities, as well as indoor batting cages and an archery range. — Times West Virginian
