Peak Fitness, the owner of a Charlotte, N.C., women-only gym that closed, is now facing a lawsuit after it attempted to shift its members to the company's other, coed gyms.
Peak Fitness, the owner of a Charlotte, N.C., women-only gym that closed, attempted to shift its members to the company's other, coed gyms - and, as a result, has been named in a consumer protection lawsuit filed by Roy Cooper, the North Carolina Attorney General. According to the complaint, Peak refused to release members of Arboretum Women-Only Health Club from their contracts or refund their money after the July 10 closing, and also allegedly failed to let consumers who were renewing their memberships know that the club was closing and that they would have to use other Peak gyms that are not for women only. "Consumers who sign up for a gym for women deserve to get what they paid for, or they should get a chance to get their money back," Cooper said in announcing the lawsuit.
