One might have expected the renovation of Brooklawn Country Club's men's locker room to yield new custom wood lockers, but members of the Fairfield, Conn., private club wouldn't hear of losing their cage-style metal lockers, which are valued by members and management for their history, large size and superior ventilation.
One might have expected the renovation of Brooklawn Country Club's men's locker room to yield new custom wood lockers, but members of the Fairfield, Conn., private club wouldn't hear of losing their cage-style metal lockers, which are valued by members and management for their history, large size and superior ventilation. To better unify four generations of locker models no longer available for purchase (most date from before 1940), club management fabricated 114 new doors with matching handles and locks, and sanded, stripped, acetone-washed and spray-painted all their lockers with an epoxy paint. James G. Rogers Architects of South Norwalk, Conn., then wrapped the banks of lockers with a mahogany wood base, crown molding and end panels, part of a project that raised and enhanced the ceilings, refurbished the shower room and upgraded the room's lighting and carpeted surfaces. Benches bearing the spike marks of long-ago golfers, whether visiting pros or former members, were also left in place at members' request.
