A high school football player from Indiana was airlifted to the hospital after sustaining and injury during a Friday scrimmage.
According to Fox 49, which cited a post on Facebook, Morgan County EMS indicated that its crews were dispatched to Martinsville High School Friday to assist an injured football player. Medics evaluated the football player and subsequently decided to call a medical helicopter to the scene.
Morgan County EMS thanked students and staff for the response to the incident.
“As a side note, we’d like to take a second and acknowledge the staff and student-athletes at MSD of Martinsville Schools,” officials with Morgan County EMS wrote. “When we arrived on scene, the staff members very clearly directed us to the patient while managing the student athletes who had obvious concerns about their teammate. If we asked for help and information, it was quickly provided. The student athletes were respectful to our processes and gave us our space to move around the building. We often mention our public safety partners, but these dedicated teachers, administrators and coaches are indispensable when emergencies arise at the schools. Amazing job!”
Martinsville Schools said in a post online that as of Saturday, the student-athlete who was injured during the scrimmage was “home resting comfortably” with family.
“During the annual Red-Blue Scrimmage at Martinsville High School on August 7, 2026, a student-athlete was injured and transported for medical attention,” school officials wrote in a prepared statement. “Thank you to the Martinsville High School leadership team, staff and coaches, MSD of Martinsville Police, City of Martinsville Police, Morgan County Emergency Management, Martinsville Fire Department, Morgan County 911 Center and Martinsville High School student-athletes for their quick and appropriate response to this incident. The professionalism, preparedness and immediate action of all individuals involved are appreciated.
“The District staff and students’ thoughts and support remain with the student-athlete and their family, and the continued backing from the Martinsville community is appreciated. After communication with the family on August 8, 2026, it was shared that the student-athlete is home resting comfortably.”
