
Missouri State Plans Major Upgrade of Athletics Facilities
Missouri State University officials unveiled a long-term vision Thursday for upgrading the school’s athletic facilities, with renovations to historic McDonald Arena expected to be the first project to take off.
The university’s Board of Governors accepted a presentation outlining the athletics master plan during its meeting Thursday, Aug. 6.
The first phase focuses on McDonald Arena, located just north of Robert W. Plaster Stadium. Planned improvements include:
- A new football team locker room in the arena’s east wing.
- Reopening and extending the tunnel connecting McDonald Arena to the football field.
- Converting the main arena court into a large weight room.
- Creating updated athletic training, examination, office, equipment, laundry and restroom spaces.

The stadium has undergone a sweeping round of renovations designed to improve the fan experience, from faster concessions and renovated restrooms to new premium spaces and behind-the-scenes technology.
Rapid City, Sanford Health Unveil Partnership on New Sports Complex
Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun and Rapid City Sports Commission Executive Director Domico Rodriguez today announced a corporate partnership agreement with Sanford Health for naming recognition for the new community sports complex.
Salamun and Rodriquez were joined by Sanford Health officials the morning of Aug. 6 for the partnership agreement announcement. The brief ceremony was held on a strip of frontage land along East Mall Drive in Rapid City, South Dakota, overlooking a 22-acre parcel of land that was recently donated by Pete Lien & Sons and approved by the Rapid City Common Council to serve as the future location for the multipurpose sports complex.
