Washington High School forfeited its Friday night football game with Carver-Atlanta for disciplinary reasons, according to Atlanta Public Schools. The schools were scheduled to play at Lakewood Stadium. But an incident Thursday involving Washington players forced the school to take disciplinary action, which included forfeiting the game, school district spokeswoman Kimberly Willis Green said. Details regarding the incident were not released. But Atlanta police are investigating a fight between high school students and at least one parent Thursday night on the Washington campus. On Thursday night, officers were called to Washington during a fight involving football players and members of a baseball team from a local instructional league, according to Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police. The fight, which remains under investigation, ended before police arrived, and some of those involved had left the area, Lyon said Friday night. Five members of the baseball team and one parent complained of minor injuries and were treated at the scene, police said. GHSA football coordinator Tommy Whittle confirmed that his office was notified of the forfeit Friday morning, but said he received no details. Carver coach Darren Myles said he was told Friday morning his Panthers wouldn't be playing. "This is the first time I've ever experienced it," Myles said. "You always want to win the game on the field." With the victory, Carver improves to 6-2, 4-0 in Region 6-AAAA, subregion B. Washington drops to 6-2, 2-2. Carver faces Grady on Friday for the subregion championship. |
