Players, coaches and referees can use the TorrX to easily ensure that practice and game balls for soccer, basketball, volleyball or football are inflated to perfect pressure.
“The TorrX takes the guessing about ball pressure out of the game for anyone involved in ball games at any level – professional, college, high school, club, etc.,” says Tom Neir, TorrX Inc. CEO. “The TorrX revolutionizes how players and officials engage with the most important piece of equipment in the game – the ball. This pump makes it fast and simple to measure and achieve exact ball pressure.”
The idea for the TorrX came from the frustration that co-creators Tom Neir and Sally Otten saw one of their sons had with poorly designed and unreliable ball pumps. “Our son wanted a high-quality ball pump that would keep his soccer ball at the correct pressure so he could focus on his game,” said Sally Otten, TorrX Inc. Director of Marketing. “We learned that other players, plus coaches and officials, shared his frustration. So we decided to come up with this ‘smart ball pump’ solution.”
The TorrX was designed and developed in Seattle. The prototypes have been tested and the final engineering work completed. It is now the subject of a KickStarter campaign that seeks to attract 2,000 backers to fund the manufacturing. Estimated availability for the TorrX in the U.S. is mid-2015 and the product will be marketed internationally.
Features of the TorrX Smart Ball Pump
The TorrX is light, portable and can be operated with one hand. It is equipped with a powerful lithium-ion battery with capacity to top-up up 50 sports balls with one charge. Ball pressure can be measured in PSI and BAR.
A protective cap serves to virtually eliminate needle breakage and is designed to ensure that the TorrX does not accidently turn on while in a sports bag. The “dead front” digital display is elegant and visible in all indoor and outdoor lighting conditions. The TorrX can be operated in two modes. In Manual Mode, a player can inflate or deflate the ball to his or her desired pressure. In Auto Mode, the player’s desired pressure is automatically reached with one button push and easily repeated to check and maintain ball pressure.
