WASHINGTON (5/28/2019)ā€”The NCCA accredited The National Council for Certified Personal Trainers (NCCPT) Certified Yoga Instructor (CYI), Certified Indoor Cycling Instructor (CICI), Certified Group Exercise Instructor (CGxI) and Certified Strength Training Specialist (CSTS) for a five-year period, expiring May, 28, 2019 during its recent meeting.

Founded in 1995, the National Council for Certified Personal Trainers is a professional certification organization acting in the public interest by establishing and enforcing education, examination, experience and ethics requirements for certification.  Along with the NCCPT Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) credential (which has been accredited by the NCCA since 2010, the Certified Yoga Instructor (CYI), Certified Indoor Cycling Instructor (CICI), Certified Group Exercise Instructor (CGxI) and Certified Strength Training Specialist (CSTS) gives the NCCPT the distinction of having the most NCCA accredited programs than any other certification company in the fitness industry.

The National Council for Certified Personal Trainers received NCCA accreditation of its Certified Yoga Instructor (CYI), Certified Indoor Cycling Instructor (CICI), Certified Group Exercise Instructor (CGxI) and Certified Strength Training Specialist (CSTS) by submitting an application demonstrating the programā€™s compliance with the NCCAā€™s Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs.  NCCA is the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (formerly the National Organization for Competency Assurance).  Since 1977, the NCCA has been accrediting certifying programs based on the highest quality standards in professional certification to ensure the programs adhere to modern standards of practice in the certification industry.

ā€œThis is a game changer for the industry,ā€ says NCCPT CEO John Platero. ā€œPeople exercising in groups donā€™t get the same supervision as one-on-one training. Yoga is an ancient art form that has been practiced for thousands of years. Our modern-day lifestyles and the associated postural deviations should be taken into consideration when teaching Yoga. Indoor cycling has become so competitive, companies are innovating and asking participants to do a lot more than pedaling. Yoga, Indoor Cycling and Group Exercise are so popular and beneficial itā€™s important to create a basic standard of care to safeguard the public. The NCCA helps establish these standards and for us at the NCCPT --- itā€™s our mission to determine entry-level competence of the fitness professional who will provide safe and effective fitness programs to the public.

The NCCPT has five nationally accredited certifications: Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Certified Yoga Instructor (CYI). Certified Indoor Cycling Instructor (CICI), Certified Group Exercise Instructor (CGI) and Certified Strength Training Specialist (CSTS). The CPT is also accredited by European Active and the only certification to be endorsed by the Explorer Program. https://www.exploring.org/activity/personal-training/

There are more than 315 NCCA-accredited programs that certify individuals in a wide range of professions and occupations including nurses, financial professionals, respiratory therapists, counselors, emergency technicians, crane operators and more.  Of ICEā€™s more than 370 organizational members, 130 of them have accredited programs.

ICEā€™s mission is to advance credentialing through education, standards, research, and advocacy to ensure competence across professions and occupations.  NCCA was founded as a commission whose mission is to help ensure the health, welfare, and safety of the public through the accreditation of a variety of certification programs that assess professional competence.  NCCA uses a peer review process to: establish accreditation standards; evaluate compliance with these standards; recognize programs which demonstrate compliance; and serve as a resource on quality certification.

ICE and NCCA are located at 2025 M Street, N.W., Suite 800, Washington, DC 20036-3309; telephone 202/367-1165; fax 202/367-2165; website www.credentialingexcellence.org.
