Counsilman-Hunsaker is proud to announce that its co-founder, the legendary Dr. James “Doc” Counsilman, has been named a finalist for induction into the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame in the Coach category.
A true innovator in the sport of swimming, Doc Counsilman revolutionized coaching through science-driven methods that helped define modern competitive swimming. His Olympic coaching career included leading the U.S. Men’s Swim Team to dominant performances in the 1964 Tokyo and 1976 Montreal Games, while mentoring dozens of world-class athletes, including Mark Spitz.
"Doc was more than a coach—he was a visionary whose legacy continues to shape the aquatic community," said Kevin Post, CEO at Counsilman-Hunsaker. "His impact on training, technique, and the integration of science into sport was decades ahead of its time."
Counsilman-Hunsaker continues to carry forward Doc's legacy by delivering forward-thinking planning, design, and operational solutions that support safe, high-performing aquatic facilities around the world.
"We are honored to celebrate this recognition and excited for the opportunity to introduce Doc's story and contributions to a new generation of swimmers, coaches, and aquatic professionals," said Post.
