Snapchat Lands Patent for Step Tracking

Snapchat’s parent company, Snap, may be looking to get into the fitness market.

According to a report from Quartz, the company has been awarded a patent that would allow it to integrate step tracking into its app.

The Snapchat app already taps other smartphone sensors, allowing users to tag their photos with information such as their altitude and the speed they’re traveling. The new feature would supposedly allow users to also include how many steps they’ve travelled.

Quartz suggests the new feature would allow users to compare steps with their friends and include unique graphics, such as a blue ribbon, that could be awarded to the user with the most steps.
