Multiple high school basketball games in the state of Indiana have been rescheduled from Friday to Thursday due to Indiana University’s Peach Bowl game scheduled for Friday night against Oregon. Among them is one of the state’s longest-running and fiercest rivalries: Jeffersonville vs. New Albany.
As reported by Kyle Neddenriep of the Indianapolis Star, athletic directors from two longtime rivals, New Albany’s Shawn Garmon and Jeffersonville’s A.J. Moye, sent out a statement Saturday that the basketball game at New Albany scheduled for Friday night will now be played on Thursday:
“NAHS and JHS have mutually agreed to move the boys basketball game back one day to Thursday 1/8/26 to accommodate those who wish to attend the Peach Bowl or watch IU football on Friday night. We apologize for any inconvenience but believe this will be a special time for all Hoosier fans we hope you understand!!”
According to Neddenriep, the Sugar Creek Tournament at Crawfordsville is moving to a Thursday-Saturday format, and the Logansport-Kokomo and Warren Central-Lawrence North games will be played Thursday instead of Friday.
"In the upside down world where Indiana football is ranked No. 1 and playing in a College Football Playoff semifinal, comes another possible sign of the apocalypse," Neddenriep wrote. "High school basketball games moving off of Friday night to accommodate football fans."
