Fundraising Friday: $100M Gift to Olympic Foundation Will Benefit Former Olympians

Ross Stevens, founder and chief executive officer of Stone Ridge Asset Management, pledged $100 million to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Foundation to provide financial security to Team USA athletes after they retire from Olympic competition. As reported for Fortune, the so-called Stevens Financial Security Awards will begin with Olympians and Paralympians representing the U.S. at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics and continue through at least the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Thanks to the largest in the USOPF’s history, eligible athletes will receive $200,000 for each Olympic Games in which they compete. The payments will come in two installments: $100,000 paid at the latter of their 45th birthday or the 20th anniversary of their Olympic Games appearance, and $100,000 to their families or chosen beneficiaries upon their death.

The Gary W. and Barbara A. Bryant Family Trust plans to donate $7.5 million to the University of Memphis athletic department, the family announced Wednesday. The gift will include a $500,000 leadership grant and a $7 million estate gift. As reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, citing a news release, the estate gift will be used "at the department's discretion to support the overall vision for Memphis Athletics and student-athletes."

San José State University announced Wednesday a groundbreaking $2 million donation to the SJSU women’s golf program from successful entrepreneur and philanthropist Malin Giddings. The gift will be used to establish the Malin Giddings Women’s Golf Excellence Fund, which will provide scholarships for women golfers and support their academic, competitive and community endeavors.

The University of Utah athletic department announced Tuesday a transformational $14 million estate gift from an anonymous donor to support Utah's women's athletics programs. This legacy gift will create an endowment that will significantly benefit key initiatives for women's athletics in perpetuity.
