The University of Wisconsin athletic department is investigating how photos and videos of the women's volleyball team were leaked without the players' consent.Â
A statement from UW Athletics posted to Twitter said that the department is aware that "private photos and video of UW volleyball student-athletes that were never intended to be shared publicly are being circulated digitally."
“The unauthorized sharing is a significant and wrongful invasion of the student-athletes’ privacy, including potential violations of university policies and criminal statutes,” the statement from the athletic department said.
According to Channel3000, athletic department officials have contacted the UW-Madison Police Department about the matter. The UWPD is investigating multiple crimes as a result, including the sharing of sensitive photos without consent.Â
The athletic department said no team members are being investigated for wrongdoing.Â
“Our top priority is supporting our student-athletes and we are providing them with the appropriate services and resources,” the athletic department said.
