A high school sports announcer in Kansas was fired this week after degrading comments he made during a girls' soccer match were caught on a hot mic.
Audio of Toby Moore's degrading comments about the level of play on the field, as well as comments directed "soccer moms" in the stands were circulated online and posted to social media.
Some of the comments Moore made during the broadcast, which was carried by the NFHS Network, include, “Was that first half as ugly as I thought it was?” and “My mind kind of flicked the ‘kill me now switch.”
The conversation then began talking about women in the stands, specifically about "soccer moms" and commenting on their “curves” and wishing for them to “tear their clothes off.”
The Kanas High School Activities Association denounced Moore's comments, said they do not reflect the values of the KHSAA.
“The KSHSAA sincerely apologizes to the students, coaches, and communities of McPherson, Rose Hill, and the viewers of the broadcast,” representatives of the association shared in a statement.
The NFHS Network said Moore, as well as other press box workers, would no longer be affiliated with any Kansas postseason games on the network.
“We regret that this incident detracted from the incredible achievement of the players, coaches, and fans involved in the championship,” network representatives said. “The NFHS Network is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of student-athletes and high schools across the country and we do not tolerate any behavior that undermines this mission.”
