The girls' wrestling coach at Olentangy Berlin High School in Deleware, Ohio, resigned May 23 following accusations of inappropriate text messages with a former student-athlete.
The coach had served in his position for three years.
According to records obtained by CBS affiliate WBNS in Columbus, the coach's resignation came three days after the parent of a recent graduate emailed the school's principal and athletic director about concerning text messages. The coach was put on administrative leave the same day, May 20.
WBNS is not naming the coach because he has not been charged.
The documents include screenshots of text messages with the coach that recently came to the parent's attention. The text messages say, "Am I on your naughty list?" and "Sending naked hugs and kisses your way. See you tomorrow at the wrestling banquet."
It is not clear in the WBNS reporting whether the student-athlete in question was a member of the coach's wrestling program.
In what appears to be a follow-up email to the principal and director, the parent discovered additional texts between the coach and their daughter. One of the messages reads, "I love who you are. If I was younger, I would've snatched you up in a heartbeat and rocked your world. Lol." No date was shown on the screenshot of the texts.
Other text messages include, "Hope you had a fun prom night. You looked amazing," and "I know you love me. Well, I hope."
Documents show the coach emailed the principal and athletic director, saying the allegations that he sent improper messages to the former student are false and without merit. He nonetheless resigned.
A spokesperson for the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office told WBNS that nothing has been referred to them as of Tuesday.
The Olentangy Local School District sent the following statement to WBNS:
On May 20, Olentangy Schools was made aware of allegations of potential district policy violations by [coach's name], former girls wrestling coach at Olentangy Berlin High School. These allegations were immediately reported to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, child protective services, and the State Board of Education's Office of Professional Conduct. While the district cannot provide a comment on the investigations by outside agencies, we can confirm that [the coach] resigned from his coaching role on May 23, 2025, and is no longer affiliated with Olentangy Schools in any capacity.
