Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades is taking a leave of absence while another internal investigation is conducted by the school.

According to Yahoo Sports sources cited Thursday by senior writer Nick Bromberg, the investigation is unrelated to the alleged confrontation with a Baylor football player during a game in September. Baylor had previously confirmed an investigation of that incident and that reports of the confrontation “were thoroughly reviewed and investigated in accordance with University policies, appropriate actions were taken and the matter is now closed.”

The school confirmed to Yahoo Sports that Rhoades began his leave Wednesday, a day after he appeared on the second College Football Playoff rankings show of the season. Rhoades, the CFP's committee chair for the 2025 season, has stepped down from that role, as well.

"The College Football Playoff Management Committee has appointed University of Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek as selection committee chair for the remainder of the 2025 football season, it was announced [Thursday] by Rich Clark, executive director of the CFP," a CFP release stated. "Yurachek replaces Mack Rhoades, the athletics director at Baylor University, who stepped down from the committee for personal reasons.

Per Yahoo's sources, the second investigation at Baylor is related to a potential violation of the school's policies.

Rhoades has been Baylor’s athletic director since 2016, as reported by Bromberg. He arrived at Baylor from Missouri and had previously been an athletic director at Houston and Akron.
