The multimedia sports brand STACK recently premiered STACK TV, a video-focused sports-performance web portal for high school student-athletes. The site launched in October at STACK.com with more than 800 clips on channels with such names as Training, Fuel, Next Level and Gear. Highlights include Lisa Leslie discussing the importance of considering academics when choosing a college, Peyton Manning working out, tours of athletic performance enhancement centers and tips about controlling food portions at restaurants. Plans include the release of more than 250 videos each month. STACK.com also links to MySTACK, an online social network for high school student-athletes, and STACK magazine, a print publication designed to help prep players improve athletic performance safely and effectively.

Substance Theory
Mention performance enhancing substances in the context of athletics, and anabolic steroids and human growth hormone immediately come to mind. Performance Enhancing Medications and Drugs of Abuse (The Haworth Press, $24, softcover) explores the use, abuse and risk of those substances at the professional level and their spread to high school and college student-athletes, weekend warriors and other at-risk populations. Subsequent chapters tackle nicotine, caffeine, erectile dysfunction medication and methylenedioxymethamphetamine (more commonly known as "ecstasy"). Edited by Mark Gold, a professor of psychiatry, neuroscience and community health and family medicine at the University of Florida's College of Medicine, this book is written in a clinical manner but is nevertheless a valuable reference for athletic administrators and coaches.
