As Budgets Shrink, Rec Agencies Struggle to Accommodate Disabled

As budgets tighten, recreation agencies struggle to truly accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Tfra 1108 Ab Talk to attendees of this year's National Institute on Recreation Inclusion, which took place in September in Eugene, Ore., and they describe a principle of hope that regularly surfaced throughout seminars and more casual conversations. "There was a sort of informal theme that inclusion is a human right, that all people have a right to engage in recreation to further themselves as human beings," says Mary Ann Devine, associate professor at the Kent State University School of Exercise, Leisure and Sport, who spoke at the event.
