After Jerry Kill stepped down from the post on Oct. 28 due to continued health issues, the University of Minnesota announced yesterday that Tracy Claeys would replace him as head coach.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Claeys signed a three-year, $4.5 million dollar contract.
A longtime assistant under Kill, Claeys had most recently been the Gophers defensive coordinator. When Kill took a leave of absence to treat his epilepsy in 2013, Claeys became acting head coach. Claeys led the team on a four-game Big Ten winning streak.
Kill indicated at his farewell press conference that he wanted Claeys to replace him.

“Tracy Claeys is the right person for this important job. I applaud and fully support interim athletic director Beth Goetz’s decision to bring continuity and stability to our football program, which is clearly on an upward trajectory.”
University President Eric Kaler said in a statement.
