O.C. Taylor (Texas) Elementary School students were treated to a significant upgrade in gym class as they were welcomed back to school.
The local NBC affiliate reports that the schoolās gym is now home to an interactive gym wall product called Lu ā and itās engaging kids both physically and mentally.
Kids are challenged to answer basic math problems or to spell certain words, but can only answer questions by using their bodies. The students can, for instance, toss a rubber ball at a target as a way to lock-in a particular answer.
The system includes a speed camera, a light and sound board and a projector that can transform a gym wall into an interactive play space.
P.E. teacher Jason Mester said that the system ā one of Luās first in the U.S. ā brings academics into the gym.
āIt helps me take what weāve been doing and raise it to the next level,ā Mester told NBC. āWeāre also reaching students who may not be as athletic and getting them moving.ā
Apart from the more physically demanding games, the product comes preloaded with other features, such as yoga or meditation, that can help students return to the classroom calm and ready to learn.
The system was paid for by the schoolās parent teacher association.
