The University of Maryland unveiled its Building Champions athletics facilities campaign this week. The initiative seeks to upgrade most of the school’s athletic facilities, including upgrades to the Field Hockey and Women’s Lacrosse Stadium, the Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center, the Softball Player Development Center, the Golf Player Development Center, the Track and Field Stadium, the Soccer Stadium and Gossett Hall. The University of North Carolina Charlotte celebrated the grand opening of it’s University Recreation Center this week. Bethel (Conn.) High School recently celebrated the grand opening of its $10 million Track and Field Training Center. The 48,000-square-foot facility offers training and competition space for the school’s track and field athletes, with amenities such as a 200-meter, four-lane raised track, a weight room, eight stationary bikes and four rooms for equipment storage. — CTInsider.com

Arlington Heights, Ill., opened a $17 million renovation and expansion of its Arlington Ridge Center. The 100,000-square-foot recreation center features 5,100 square feet of fitness space with 36 pieces of equipment, a walking track, a multipurpose gymnasium and four indoor pools. — Chicago Tribune

Globe Life Field, the future home of MLB’s Texas Rangers, is reportedly 90 percent complete, despite the fire that took place at the construction site last month. Crews are reportedly installing seats, outfitting kitchen and concessions space, and beginning preliminary work on the field surface. Once complete, the 1.8 million square foot ballpark will feature seating for 40,300. The first event at the venue is scheduled for March 14. — MLB.com
