A high school football player in Alabama died Friday after suffering from heat illness, a family member told WSFA-TV.
Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery announced the death of rising senior football player, Dimitri McKee.
McKee’s cousin Marshall Davis told WSFA-TV McKee suffered from heat illness.
McKee, number 75, played offensive tackle for the Lee Generals and was heading into his senior year. He had drawn interest from colleges, including the University of Alabama, WSFA-TV reported.
The season-opening Aug. 21 scrimmage between the Lee Generals and the Daphne Trojans was canceled after McKee’s death.
