A fan was critically injured Sunday afternoon in a fall at the Tennessee Titans’ Nissan Stadium.

According to the Nashville NBC affiliate, 37-year-old Thomas Carrico lost his balance while reaching for one of the free t-shirts being tossed into the crowd during the second half of the Titans game against the New England Patriots.

Carrico fell from the lower-level balcony of the stadium into the awning that covers the team tunnel. He received immediate medical attention while at the stadium and was then transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The Titans confirmed the fall in a statement Sunday afternoon.

"At today’s game, an adult fan fell from the lower bowl seating area to the ground. The fan received attention from emergency personnel on the scene and was transported to a local hospital," the statement said.
