The dangers of aquatics-based breath-holding exercises were tragically evident over the weekend after a man drowned at the West Valley City (Utah) Family Fitness Center.

An experienced swimmer, 35-year-old Corey Holmgren was swimming laps while trying to expand his lung capacity using different lung techniques. His wife was watching him when he went under.

According to the local CBS affiliate, lifeguards jumped in to attempt to save Holmgren and pulled him out of the water. Emergency crews tried to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful.
