A 10-year-old girl drowned Monday while swimming at the Aransas Pass Aquatics Center in Aransas Pass, Texas.

Aransas Pass Police chief Eric Blanchard called the girl's death a freak and tragic accident, according to 3 News

The drowning happened around 2:26 p.m. when the girl went underwater and did not resurface.

Lifeguards told police they saw the girl go under and responded immediately. Lifeguards pulled the girl from the pool and performed CPR, but she did not survive.

The girl was accompanied by adults, and police are still investigating the matter by interviewing witness, friends and family members.
