The Philo (Ohio) High School football team ended its season prematurely due to an illness that spread among the team.

Athletic director Dave Thomas confirmed to the Time Recorder that the Electrics had pulled out of the Ohio High School Athletic Association football postseason.

Thomas said he is working to contact parents and alert them to the situation, and tickets will be refunded for Friday's game.

OHSAA's Tim Stried noted it will be considered a forfeit by Philo, and Hartley will advance to the next round.

At 5-5 the 14 seed Electrics were slated to travel to Bishop Hartley on Friday night to take on the 3 seed 8-2 Hawks.

“It’s unfortunate,” Hawks coach Brad Burchfield told The Columbus Dispatch. “We’re disappointed because we wanted to play. Everybody would have got to play, and it would have been a great home game for our fans and our kids. We would have liked to play, but it’s just the way it is.”
