The Carson City (Nev.) School District this week warned parents and student-athletes about an app that falsely claims to help high school student-athletes land NIL deals.Â
In a news release, the district said that any text or notification from the app, called the "NIL Club," should be considered a scam.Â
The district said the app contacts high school athletes via text, soliciting involvement in booster and fundraising activities. However, opting in to those opportunities carries hidden fees and recurring subscription charges.Â
The district is urging families to remain vigilant and report any suspicious messages to school officials, adding that students and parents should not provide any personal information, financial details or engage with these scam communications in any way.
