A high school referee in Ohio collapsed on the court during a girls' basketball game Saturday evening.
According to WFXP, Cathedral Prep was playing Warren JFK when the referee collapsed, sending the on-site athletic trainer on the court to stabilize the referee with an AED.
The official was alert when paramedics arrived, and is reportedly doing well as of Monday morning.
“We have multiple AEDs on-site," said Anthony Fuhrman, athletic trainer at Cathedral Prep. "One stationary, one upstairs and one that travels with me. I bring it our to the court with me to the field where ever I go for instances like this because they are so unpredictable so speed is of the essence when you’re dealing with situations like this whether it’s a stopped heart or a heart that beating irregularly you want to get it back on a base so the quicker you can get onto it the better.”
Play was resumed after the incident.
