The FBI investigated an online threat targeting Houston Stadium ahead of Monday's World Cup match between Brazil and Japan.

"FBI Houston is aware of a threat to Houston stadium circulating online," read a statement from the FBI. "We are working with our local, state, and federal public safety partners to investigate who is behind the communication. At this time, there is no credibility to the threat. We continue to analyze and assess the situation. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or individuals to law enforcement immediately."

FBI Houston spokesperson Connor Hagan told KHOU-11 that the agency had received information Monday morning about an online threat that had been sent to multiple businesses and new organizations.

While it was ultimately determined that there was no credible threat, Hagan said investigators are still searching for the perpetrator.

The statement came as Houston was preparing to host Monday's noon World Cup knockout match between Brazil and Japan.

The FBI said it will continue analyzing and assessing the situation while the investigation remains ongoing.
