The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of an electrician who died during renovation work at the University of Missouri's football stadium.
As reported by Kansas City ABC affiliate KMBC, Corey Sooter, 44, died June 10 after working for BK2 Electrical and Design at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium five days earlier.
Records obtained by KMBC's affiliate TV station KMIZ in Columbia state that the fire department was called to Faurot Field at 9:05 a.m. and arrived within five minutes.
University medics were on the scene providing care to Sooter. According to an incident report, the incident was classified as an electrocution after fire crews used specialized equipment to test the wiring and found it was still energized.
In a statement to KMIZ, a University of Missouri spokesperson expressed condolences, saying, “The University of Missouri community is deeply saddened by the passing of Corey Sooter. Our thoughts and prayers are with Corey’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
According to Sooter's obituary, he was an organ donor, helping save five lives, KMBC reported.
