A high school quarterback in Wisconsin has died after suffering an injury during a game last Thursday.

According to WEAU, Alma Center Lincoln High School superintendent Drew Semingson identified the senior who died as Adam Massman in a message sent to families Saturday.

Semingson said Massman was injured during Thursday night’s football game and received medical care from emergency medical personnel who were at the game before he was taken to a hospital.

The district learned Saturday that Massman had died of his injuries at the hospital. He was 17 years old and set to begin his senior year this week.

“This loss touches our Lincoln family in many ways,” Semingson wrote.

Massman’s mother is an elementary school counselor, and a sibling attends the junior high school. Several other of Massman's relatives work for the district or serve on the school board.

Massman played quarterback and defensive back for Alma Center Lincoln and also competed in basketball and baseball.

Massman was injured during Lincoln’s Thursday night football game against Turtle Lake, according to the school district.

The district has not released additional details about how the injury occurred.
