Florida State University has expanded its no-vehicles rule to prohibit pedicab drivers from approaching the gates of Doak Campbell Stadium on football gamedays starting with the 2026 season.
As reported by Tallahassee CBS affiliate WCTV, FSU has always had a “no-vehicle zone” around the stadium, and it now categorizes pedicabs among prohibited vehicles. The rule restricts drivers to certain entry points.
“Each offseason, we review and update our security protocols for all athletics events on campus,” assistant athletics director Derek Satterfield told WCTV in a statement. “Prior to this football season, we expanded the no-vehicle zone around Doak Campbell Stadium.”
Mike Goldstein, owner of Capital City Pedicabs, said he was told the changes happened due to pedestrian safety concerns and that he can pick up and drop people off around campus, but he can't peddle directly to the stadium. He said that he’s supposed to be receiving an updated map of the areas he can now operate in.
A local business owner has launched an online petition calling on the university to allow Goldstein and other pedicab drivers full access to games again. The petition had garnered more than 1,300 signatures as of Friday.
Goldstein said he has been picking up fans around the stadium for the past five years and that the service is particularly appreciated by those facing mobility issues.
“Folks do reach out for rides from the lots to the stadium gates, who need them mainly from mobility issues. So, if someone is using a cane, crutches, wheelchairs, and can’t find a way to get to the stadium, there are options,” he said, per WCTV's Jay Harrison. “There are other options for it. But, overall, us and them are definitely hard to find on those days in general.”
