East Lions Community Centre

London, Ontario
Construction Cost: $21 million
Area / Square Feet: 42,200
Occupancy Date: September 2019

The East Lions Community Centre is a destination for visitors throughout the neighborhood and beyond. The facility offers a stimulating, fun and inviting environment capable of hosting a much wider variety of programming that caters to all demographics to promote community-wide recreation, health, culture and learning.

Under the MJMA-led master plan, the established park retains its existing tennis courts and soccer pitch but gains a basketball court and copious parking — in addition to the new 42,200-square-foot structure of the center. Occupying an L-shaped footprint, the two-story center faces the interior of the park with a stately, translucent facade. A generous entrance courtyard on the park-facing side is sheltered by three sheer walls, including a curtain wall that visually connects it to the lobby inside.

Inside, the facility features an aquatics center — comprised of a six-lane, 25-meter lap pool and a leisure pool supported by universal change rooms — and a large gymnasium. An additional complex of rooms — including multipurpose, activity and art rooms, and a community kitchen — provide spaces for recreation, community and cultural programming.
