Eastway Regional Recreation Center

Charlotte, North Carolina
Construction Cost: $40 million
Area / Square Feet: 95,000

Eastway Regional Recreation Center opened in the fall of 2020 after the design team worked closely with Mecklenburg County to engage the surrounding communities in its vision to provide and connect the region to a variety of health, wellness and educational opportunities.

The facility aspires to bring everyone together, attracting users who are diverse in age, ethnicity and cultural backgrounds. Aided by an intensive public engagement effort, the programming for the center’s amenities includes indoor aquatics, sports courts, a fitness center, an indoor track, multi-use event rooms, a kitchen, arts/culture classrooms and more. Programs are trend-focused, innovative and demographic-centric to create unique recreational experiences that allow people to connect in a personalized environment.

This two-story, 95,000-square-foot building is set at the end of a gracious drive in the wetlands of Eastway Park, a 90-acre urban park primarily surrounded by industrial development and suburban housing neighborhoods.
