Eight years in the making, the City of Arlington East Library and Recreation Center (ELARC) celebrated its grand opening in November 2020. The 47,250-square-foot facility offers a variety of programs, amenities and resources for residents of all ages.
A single building with two distinct functions, the ELARC has a look inspired by the architectural and automotive designs from the 1950s and today. Intertwining curved and angular elements are joined by a shared lobby space, creating a state-of-the-art facility that honors Arlington’s history while providing a modern space for present and future generations. The recreation side of the facility features an indoor multipurpose swimming pool, a gymnasium with a full-size basketball court, multiple workout locations, locker rooms, a group exercise room, a senior lounge, community rooms, a childcare center and outdoor recreational amenities.
The center’s 3,000-square-foot, 113,000-gallon indoor swimming pool operates year-round and provides a variety of aquatic programs, including lap swimming, recreational swimming, swim lessons and aqua fitness classes. A deep-water area facilitates lifeguard training and certification courses. Lap lanes can be converted for active recreation participation through the installation of a floatable obstacle course.
