Craig Oldham Pool Grand Blanc High School

Grand Blanc, Mich.
Construction Cost: $38.96 million
Area / Square Feet: 8,860
Occupancy Date: September 2023

Completed as part of a 2020 bond initiative, Grand Blanc High Schoolโ€™s 41,892-square-foot athletic complex includes a state-of-the-art, 8,860-square-foot stretch competition pool and a new football stadium. The natatorium features eight 25-yard and 25-meter lap lanes, 15 25-yard cross-course lanes, two 1-meter springboards and two 3-meter springboards. A 6-foot moveable fiberglass bulkhead facilitates four competition configurations, supporting swimming, diving and water polo. The pool holds 522,500 gallons and includes a timing system with a video display scoreboard. The second-level gallery accommodates 400 spectators, while terraces and plazas around the facility accommodate additional fans. The aquatics center connects to the stadiumโ€™s home and visitor plazas, with a tunnel linking the practice field to team rooms for efficient athlete movement. Fans benefit from elevated viewing terraces that overlook both the pool and stadium. A significant design challenge arose just days before the pool shell was poured when the owner requested 3-meter springboard diving. The design team quickly adjusted the pool depth, modified reinforcing steel and addressed tight clearance constraints around the diving stands, ensuring the facility met collegiate-level aquatics standards without delaying construction.
