The Greeley Ice Haus, a municipal project approved by voters in 2002, is Northern Colorado’s premier indoor ice arena. Located on a prominent historic downtown site, the facility plays a significant role in the continued revitalization of the area. Carefully designed so that its exterior facade reflects strong, rich traditional architecture while enclosing a state-of-the-art operation, the arena boasts an NHL-size ice sheet, plus seating for nearly 1,000 spectators in a combination of fixed-back chairs and benches (as well as several wheelchair spaces with excellent sightlines).
From the main lobby, visitors enjoy an impressive view of the exterior entryway plaza highlighted by an exciting life-sized bronze sculpture. The upper level of the facility has three large and versatile meeting rooms, two of which overlook the ice surface.
The floor plan is organized with a central circulation spine that stems from the lobby entry and allows clear views into rink spaces from multiple vantage points. Large windows along the north wall offer views of the interior activity spaces while showering these areas with natural daylight.
The original project called for two sheets of ice, but public input revealed that community members preferred a higher quality building with one ice sheet. The facility’s design, however, includes provisions for eventually increasing the building’s size and adding a second sheet, as well as a second bank of hockey locker rooms.
