The Pipestem Resort State Park in West Virginia is expanding its outdoor recreation offerings as part of an $11 million investment package announced last week by Gov. Jim Justice.
The 4,050-acre park — which already offers hiking, biking, fishing and horseback riding — will be adding stand-up paddleboarding, tubing trips, rock climbing, guided fly-fishing and a zip line.
A portion of the investment package will also be used to update park cabins, provide campground maintenance, renovate the existing tramway and replace water treatment plants.
The new activities are expected to debut this spring, with the zip line canopy tour going through a test period in April and opening to the public in May. The splash park will be ready in June.
Pipestem Resort State Park is partnering with the ACE Adventure Resort in Oak Hill, W.V., which will provide resources in the form of equipment, operations staff and instruction.
The zip line, to be designed and built by Bonsai Design of Colorado, will descend 300 feet from Bluestone Gorge and cross over the Bluestone River three times.
Justice told the Charleston Gazette-Mail that the improvements project is “just one more step in making West Virginia a world-class tourism destination.”
