As athletic organizations advance policies to keep drones away from their venues, Miami's Sun Life Stadium recently opened its gates and welcomed in a pack of the unmanned aerial devices and their operators for a new sporting event--drone races.

The Drone Racing League debuted earlier this year in Florida and released the first video coverage of its races this week. Drones zipped through concourses and up ramps at an empty Sun Life Stadium, skimming over empty seats and around neon obstacles as competitors race to complete the course with the fastest time while hitting all checkpoints.

It might be a little nerve-wracking for venue operators to watch -- a handrail collision brings done one competitor in one qualifying round.

The next DRL event will be held at an abandoned LA mall later this spring. For now, Sun Life Stadium is the only sports venue to host an event (Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is an investor in DRL). As the sport takes off, will more stadiums and arenas open their doorsl?
