The indoor pool at the Arnold (Mo.) Recreation Center is open again after briefly closing due to a Legionnaires’ Disease scare.
The Missouri Health Department confirmed last Thursday that a man who had recently visited the pool contracted Legionnaires’ Disease, according to CBS affiliate KMOV.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Legionnaires’ is a type of lung infection that can be caused by breathing in mist contaminated with Legionella bacteria.
State health codes did not require the pool to be closed down, but the rec center closed it anyway, based on what officials called an “abundance of caution.”
The pool was disinfected with a chlorine shock, and was reopened on Sunday.
