In Pennsylvania, a team part of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball is transitioning the stadium to synthetic turf

The project at Clipper Magazine Stadium — home to the Lancaster Barnstormers — began Jan. 22 with a groundbreaking event.

The artificial turf will cover the entire field, including the bases and the home plate area.

The approximately $2 million project is expected to be completed around April 20, which would be in time for the Barnstormers to play preseason games at the ballpark.

More projects:

  • George Washington University in Washington, D.C., is moving forward with plans to transform an on campus natatorium into a basketball practice facility for the men’s and women’s teams beginning in October. The project will boot the university’s aquatic athletic programs off the main campus. The current facility is an 8-lane, 25 yard pool located adjacent to the campus. The plan for the Revolutionaries' aquatic athletic programs is to take over the GW Mount Vernon Athletics Facility, which is a few miles northwest of campus, however, it was unclear last week when the renovated facility will be completed, and if the university has another plan in the interim.

  • About $1 million in emergency repairs will rectify safety issues in the gym and auditorium at Rincon High School in Tuscon, Ariz. An inspection turned up structural issues in the north gym and auditorium, and they were closed for safety. Cracked bricks will be replaced or sealed. Tongue-and-groove decking in the auditorium has sustained water damage, so the decking will be demolished and replaced. The district aims to have the facilities ready for use by spring break 2024. The Arizona Department of Administration School Facilities is funding the project with a grant through the Emergency Deficiency Fund.
