Students and staff at Taft High School in Woodland Hills are celebrating the completion of their brand-new football stadium.
The school’s band, cheerleaders, and football and dance teams attended Monday’s ribbon-cutting for the $230 million stadium. One cheerleader told KNX News’ Karen Adams she feels safer on the new facility’s turf than on the real grass of the old field.
“There were definitely a lot of injuries in my freshman year here, so I’m just really lucky to have this facility,” she said.
The new stadium is part of the L.A. Unified School District’s $8 billion investment in modernizing its buildings. Principal Daniel Steiner said the new stadium, which broke ground two years ago, has brighter lights and an all-weather track that’s softer on the feet than regular dirt. [KNX News]
USF officials moved another step towards the development of the on-campus stadium on Wednesday.
The Board of Trustees (BOT) Finance Committee approved the USF Stadium Construction Management Agreement, paving the way for construction of the projected $340 million project to begin this fall.
The agreement passed from all eight committee members without any opposition. There was little discussion prior to the vote.
The agreement will also be voted on by the full board during the next trustees meeting on June 4.
On April 9, the university selected Manhattan Construction Co., H.J. Russell & Co. and DuCon LLC to manage the stadium construction. [USF Oracle]
It is a done deal!
The Queens Borough Board voted to approve the land lease agreement for Phase 2 of the Willets Point redevelopment.
The New York City Council had already approved the project in April, but pursuant to 384(b)(4) of the New York City Charter, the Borough Board had to vote.
Phase 2 includes the building of a professional soccer stadium, a 250-room hotel and 1400 affordable housing units. Construction has already begun on phase one, which includes 1100 affordable apartments.
“We scored a huge GOOOAALLL for Queens! What better place to have a deal like this done than in the most diverse county in the United States, Queens,” Queens Borough president Donovan Richards told PIX11 News after a brief meeting Wednesday night. [Pix11]
