A new turf soccer pitch and track and field facility in Gander, Newfoundland, is expected to open in June. It was first announced in October 2020.
The province's latest turf soccer field — and only the second outside the Avalon — is expected to open in Gander in a few weeks.
It's been nearly four years in the making.
"In any community where we can get a turf pitch funded and put in, it helps grow that club in that community," said Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association president Chris Bartlett.
The soccer and athletics facility was first announced in October 2020, at a price-tag of $6.6 million. In May 2021, a tender was awarded to Can-Am Platforms and Construction Ltd. for $6,777,725.92. [CBC]
After being voted in in 2016, the Buena Vista Sports Complex is getting started with Phase 1 and will likely start seeing completed baseball fields by early 2025.
As part of media day, many news and multimedia outlets gathered off Lomas Del Sur Boulevard in south Laredo to see the beginning stages of the complex's construction.
With over 150 acres dedicated to the project, and another 50 more down the line, residents may want to look to the Texas A&M International University campus for comparison in size. The East Brunswick (N.J.) township is soliciting two separate bids for its municipal ice rink project.
Both bids are required to be returned to the township by July 2, "so that we should have hopefully some good news to the township at the beginning of the summer, with every anticipation and expectation for a groundbreaking this fall," Mayor Brad Cohen said at the May 13 Township Council meeting.
Bids have been requested for the procurement, construction and installation of the ice-related work for the actual indoor ice rink and associated work, which at a minimum includes refrigeration, mechanical systems, concrete slabs beneath the ice and required appurtenances. [MyJerseyCentral.com]
