A new shared arena for the 76ers and Flyers is coming to the South Philadelphia Sports Complex as part of a 50/50 partnership between Comcast Spectacor and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, the Sixers' ownership group.

The announcement comes after the Sixers' plans to build a new arena in the city's Market East neighborhood fell through. The partnership includes a joint commitment between Comcast Spectacor and HBSE to help revitalize Market East.

Sixers owner Josh Harris said HBSE and Comcast met over the past two weeks to establish the partnership. Both sides "saw an opportunity for something bigger than we planned," Harris said. [CBS]

Charles County Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism is inviting the public to participate in the first public meeting to provide input on the design of a future Sports and Wellness Complex at St. Charles Town Center.

The meeting will be held at the former Sears building at St. Charles Towne Center in Waldorf on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to use the upper-level exterior entrance adjacent to the JCPenney Store to reach the meeting location.

The meeting is the first in a series of community engagement activities to gather input from the public about the design and use of the 130,000 square foot facility. The future Sports and Wellness Complex is envisioned to be a state-of-the art multigenerational facility with amenities such as a natatorium, gymnasium, fitness center and more, depending on community feedback. The engagement process is expected to occur over the next few months and anticipated to conclude by June 2025. [The Baynet]

Repairs and improvements for Ames High's nearly 25-year-old track are under budget and poised for a late spring start.

The stadium will undergo roughly $2.4 million worth of stadium renovations, which include a new track, new LED lights, additional seating, and ADA modifications.

The Ames School Board awarded the project contract to Henkel Construction Company on Monday during its regular meeting. The contract was short of the previously estimated $2.7 million budget. [Ames Tribune]
