Winter Haven officials broke ground on the new Winter Haven Recreation and Cultural Center earlier this month. A modern $21 million building is being constructed to encompass more than 37,000-square-feet.

The new center will contain a double gymnasium, fitness center, activities room, library and business support area.

Outdoors, the facility will have a new playground, splash pad, outdoor courts, baseball field and outdoor space. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2025 or early 2026, according to city spokeswoman Katrina Hill.  [The Ledger]

The St. Catharines Club Roma Wolves have a new home away from home.

The club has opened a new 22,100-foot indoor training facility in St. Catharines which Club Roma general manager of soccer operations Mark Bolton says is a “game changer.”

“We have something that’s 12 months a year now,” he said. “We can use this in the summertime when fields get shut down so practices don’t need to get canceled. They can come here and train. We can do individual training. We can do team training. We can do leagues. We have our own control.”

Bolton said the facility, located on Oakdale Avenue, was a must as the club continues to expand.

Roma’s registration for 2025 is more than 1,200 players. The club plans to operate 40 travel teams compared to 23 last season and their high performance program had gone from two teams to this year to nine. [BPSN]

Upgrades are coming to the home of the Milwaukee Brewers more than a year after the passage of a public financing deal for the stadium.

The Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District board last week unanimously approved a $54.9 million project plan for American Family Field this year. The planned renovations include $10 million for a public gathering space, and $25 million to winterize the stadium so it can be used for events during the offseason.

The plan comes after Gov. Tony Evers signed a bipartisan bill in 2023 that includes over $500 million in public funds for upgrades to the ballpark over the next few decades.

“It’s the first in what’s going to be many steps of delivering on what the legislature and the governor approved, and what I think a majority of citizens of Wisconsin want to see done, which is to make sure that we have a nice facility that allows the Brewers to be competitive on the ball field,” said Pat Goss, the executive director of the district.
