The Cherry Creek School District announced a partnership with the new Denver National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team. In alignment with our Core Values and our vision of a Pathway of Purpose for every student, CCSD and the Denver NWSL are collectively investing to build soccer fields and a stadium in Centennial. This first-of-its-kind partnership between Denver NWSL and CCSD, along with the City of Centennial, will help advance women’s youth, amateur, and professional sports in Colorado and benefit CCSD students, families, and the community at-large.
This is only possible thanks to the support of our community. In December, CCSD sold its first issuance of 2024 voter-approved bonds. Due to the strong credit rating of CCSD, the bonds were sold at a premium, which generated $46 million of additional funds for bond projects. A portion of these funds will support this project without impacting any of the 2024 bond projects promised to voters. It is important to remember that bond dollars can only be used for capital construction projects, not to support the operating expenses of CCSD, such as increasing teacher pay or reducing class size. A Southeast Nebraska school system will soon have its own space to host athletic events without needing to share fields with a nearby university.
Crete Public Schools announced Wednesday that it plans to begin construction next week on a multi-purpose athletic facility which will allow Crete to host football, soccer, tennis, track and band events on their own turf - literally.
One of the largest school systems south of the Metro, Crete currently shares many facilities with NAIA Doane University, which is just down the street, but CPS says that the growth in both schools' programs has caused scheduling conflicts and space limitations, making it even more essential for the Cardinals' teams to have their own space to practice and compete.
CPS is calling the initiative Project Rise. In a Wednesday press release, Crete Public Schools said the first phase of the campaign will implement new lighting, permanent bleacher seating and a press box. The full program will cost approximately 10 million dollars. Roughly half of that money will come from the district's building fund, and the rest from a capital campaign. Closed for more than three years, the Gemini Center’s natatorium renovation project has begun in earnest.
Beginning last week, construction fencing was installed along the west side of the Gemini Center.
All sidewalks on the west side of the Gemini Center will be impassible during the renovation.
Individuals parking in the library parking lot will have to walk around the construction fence to access the main entrance. [Cleveland.com]
