Fort Lewis College Opens $6 Million Sports Performance Center
What was once an eyesore is now the shining star on the hill at Fort Lewis College.
For decades, the Skyhawks' weight room was way behind its peers and rivals, with local high schools having better spaces and equipment. Coaches steered recruits away from the weight room and some teams couldn't work out together with the lack of space.
Now, thanks to years of planning by FLC and support from the Durango community, the Skyhawks have flown to the top of Division II and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with the opening of the $6 million CommonSpirit Sports Performance Center.
The space, across from Whalen Gymnasium, is 10,000 square feet and has 24 weight racks, six treadmills, three rowing machines, three bikes, two stair steppers, 10 weight machines, a 250-square-foot fuel station and a turf area.
Camden Yards Upgrades Approved by Maryland Stadium Authority for 2026
Last September, Catie Griggs was less than a month into her new job as the Orioles' president of business operations when she expressed a desire to upgrade Camden Yards, a ballpark that hasn't changed a ton since opening in 1992.
"You will see things in '25. I think you're likely to see much more substantive change in 2026," Griggs said at the time, while sitting in the first-base dugout. "Just looking out behind you right now, I think we have some opportunity with the videoboards."
The minor renovations for this season included a temporary sound system to replace the old one. The bigger changes, as Griggs alluded to, wouldn't come until after the 2025 season.
But they're coming -- including those videoboards.
Sprawling Sports Complex Proposed in Sacramento Suburb
A new development proposal outlines plans for a large-scale, multi-use sports and recreation facility in San Diego. The Mettle Shop, a sports and entertainment venue developer, announced Monday it filed a project application with the city of Folsom for the Folsom Ranch Sports Complex — a 410,000-square-foot facility planned for a 21-acre site at the northeast corner of Prairie City Road and Alder Creek Parkway.
